All about Karen

Many patients I worked with in the hospital setting told me that they had either never talked with anyone about nutrition and wellness techniques to prevent disease, or, if they had, they were given one-size-fits-all kind of recommendations that they didn’t understand or relate to. I heard tales of trying to follow the latest health headlines and fad diets just to find that there was no lasting weight loss, improved health, or habits that could be maintained. These experiences are what moved me to create The Healthy Culture.

One-size-fits-all plans and health and nutrition headlines and fads can be confusing and misleading. They do not take into account your particular health status, preferences, or lifestyle because they are created for the masses and to capture attention. They usually don’t tell you how to actually use the information that they spout. Each person has habits, favorite foods, time constraints, family traditions, and budgets that are unique. That means each person needs a health and wellness approach that takes these personal preferences into account.

My goal is to help people hack through the headlines and provide tools to help people create their own Healthy Culture – a personalized nutrition, health and wellness approach that is easy to follow throughout a lifetime.

Come on this journey with me!

Hi!  I’m Karen, the founder of The Healthy Culture.  I am an Oregon-based registered and licensed dietitian nutritionist (RDN), long-time home cook and food lover. I have worked in hospitals helping people with many different types of diseases such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes.  I have also developed nutrition programs to help patients prepare for surgeries so they might heal more quickly afterwards, and I have taught future dietitians about the importance of using a person’s culture in creating nutrition plans.
